RedFlower Soundboard

Others can’t hear the sounds in voice chat or co-streaming

Voice chat and co-streaming usually send only your microphone to the other side. To let them hear sound effects, mix the sounds into your microphone: use your sound card’s loopback (mix) feature or a mixer app.

Why they can’t hear it

RedFlower Soundboard sends sound only to the device selected in Audio output (speakers, headphones or a sound card). Streaming apps capture your PC’s audio, so your live room hears it; but voice chat in YY, QQ, WeChat, Discord or games — and co-streaming or PK in some streaming apps — often sends only your microphone, so the sound effects aren’t included.

First, look for a “share computer audio” option

Some voice or co-streaming features can send your computer’s audio along with your voice; the option goes by different names, such as “computer audio”, “system sound” or “share audio”. Turn it on and the other side hears the sounds playing on your PC. If there’s no such option, use one of the methods below.

Method 1: your external sound card’s loopback (mix)

Many external sound cards can mix your PC’s audio with the microphone — often called loopback, backing track, mix or live mode:

  1. In Audio output, choose the output device of your sound card.
  2. Turn on loopback (mix) as described in the sound card’s manual.
  3. In the voice or streaming app, select this sound card as the microphone.

See Which external sound cards work?

Method 2: a mixer app (no external sound card)

Use a mixer app such as VoiceMeeter to combine your microphone and the sound effects into one “virtual microphone”:

  1. After installing it, choose the input device it provides in Audio output (its name usually contains VoiceMeeter Input).
  2. In the mixer app, connect your microphone and pick the headphones you wear, so you can hear the sounds too.
  3. In the voice or streaming app, select the mixer’s output as the microphone (its name usually contains VoiceMeeter Output).

Follow the mixer app’s own instructions for details. With only a virtual audio cable (such as VB-CABLE) and no mixing, the other side hears the sound effects but not your voice.

Check afterwards

  • If you’re live at the same time, the device your streaming app captures must match Audio output; when you change the output device, change it in the streaming app too — see Viewers can’t hear sounds.
  • With speakers instead of headphones, your microphone may pick the sound up again and cause an echo; wearing headphones fixes it.
