RedFlower Soundboard

Other players get louder or quieter by themselves

This is Also lower other players in Ducking: it lowers these players while ducking, then sets them to the Restore volume to level — not back to their previous volume.

Why they get louder or quieter

With Also lower other players on, RedFlower Soundboard directly changes the volume of players such as Kugou, QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music, Kuwo and Qishui in the Windows volume mixer (the player’s own volume slider may not show any change):

  • While ducking: they drop to the Duck volume to level (5% by default), so they suddenly get quiet when a sound plays.
  • When ducking ends: they’re set to the Restore volume to level (100% by default). RedFlower Soundboard doesn’t remember their previous volume: a player that was below this level gets louder, and one that was above it gets quieter.

Other players are lowered in these cases:

Don’t need it: turn off Also lower other players

  1. Click ≡ in the top-right corner and choose Ducking.
  2. Turn off the switch next to Also lower other players. Changes take effect right away and are saved automatically.

Don’t remember turning it on?Clicking the text of that row also flips the switch, so it may have been turned on by accident while you were looking at the settings.

Need it: set the restore level to your usual volume

First check what the player is normally set to in the volume mixer (see the next section for how to open it), then enter the same value in Restore volume to — for example 60 if it’s usually at 60%. After ducking it goes back to 60% instead of jumping up or down.

One value for all playersIf several players are open, they’re all set to this value when ducking ends.

Already messed up: fix it in the volume mixer

  1. Right-click the speaker icon at the right end of the taskbar and choose “Open volume mixer”.
  2. Find Kugou, QQ Music or the other player and drag its slider back to where you usually have it.

Windows usually remembers each app’s volume here, so it stays the same even after you reopen the player or restart the PC. When RedFlower Soundboard exits normally, it sets the players it lowered back to the Restore volume to level; if it’s force-closed while ducking (for example ended in Task Manager or by a power cut), the player stays at the lowered volume: reopen RedFlower Soundboard while the player is playing and it’s set back automatically, or fix it here by hand.
